If there's anything I love more than makeup, it's animals. Seriously, my two dogs and two cats are my favorite beings on this planet and my heart will always hold a soft spot for our furry friends.
I have always been aware that some cosmetic companies tested on animals, and in the past, I have selfishly chosen to turn a blind eye to this, simply because I didn't want to have to acknowledge the horrific truth of what really goes on for animals in testing labs. Guys, it's not just bunnies and mice that go through testing. It's cats, dogs, puppies, you name it. I'll spare you the gory details and potential day-ruining videos I've seen exposing animal testing practices, and instead bestow you with something better- knowledge. (If you would like to educate yourself on the history and facts of animal testing I encourage you to read this article).
The beauty industry has expanded and progressed so much, that there is absolutely no need to purchases products from companies that aren't cruelty-free. Don't believe me? Check out this incredible website Cruelty-Free Kitty that provides you with a complete guide to makeup and beauty brands that do not test on animals. This is pretty lengthy, to my relief, and includes some of my personal favorites: Becca, Tarte, Stila, IT Cosmetics and much more. For the full list of cruelty-free beauty brands in 2017 click here. The site even breaks it down by specific products, so if you're looking for a great new foundation but also don't want your money going to a company that tests on animals, this is your new go-to. It also breaks down brands based on retailers, such as Sephora and Ulta.
Bottom line- there's no excuse to test these products on animals, and moving forward I promise to make a conscious effort to know more about the brands I buy in relation to animal testing.
Big shoutout to fabulous makeup artist Trendee King for introducing me to Cruelty-Free Kitty and for being an advocate for this cause!
