Spring Skincare 101: What Your Skin Needs for the New Season

Ah, springtime. Or so I've heard. My fellow New Yorkers feel me on this one as the weather here has been perpetually rainy and cold with a few sunny days sprinkled in between. Weather woes aside, new season = new skincare routine. So what changes do you need to make?

Detox

Time to shed that winter skin! Built up layers of leftover product, dead skin, and environmental toxins can seriously kill your skins mojo, so it's important to get your hands on a great exfoliator to detoxify and refresh your skin.

My personal go-to product year round is charcoal, not only does it remove toxins from your skin, it's an awesome exfoliator and cleanser and leaves skin feeling and looking fresh. Really any charcoal bar or scrub will do, but I recommend Biore's Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar or Yes To Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Stick . Both are totally affordable and usually available at your local drugstore.

Also, if you suffer from blackheads like me, grab some of Biore's Deep Cleansing Pore Strips. These in conjunction with the charcoal is a total game changer for your pores.

SPF

Yes, SPF should be a staple in your beauty and skincare routine regardless of the season, but with the changing seasons, it's uber important. Make sure your moisturizer, primer or BB cream has AT LEAST SPF 30, your skin will thank you later. Try Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel or It Cosmetics CC+ Cream

Up Your Under Eye Game

Increased sunlight= brighter outside. Brighter outisde= squinting. Squinting = Wrinkles and fine lines. Gasp! GIve your under eyes some extra attention and be sure to apply an eye cream packed with peptides and a high concentration of antioxidants.

LUA Eye Beam Oil is formulated with pure flower and plant oils and not only hydrates your under eye area, but your brows! Honestly, you can really just rub this magical oil all over your eye area (not in your eye of course). Fun fact: Eyelids need some TLC too!

For some serious undereye hydration, try out Lancome's Genifique Youth Activating Eye Cream, which I received as a gift some time ago ran through it because it was AMAZING. Full disclosure, it will cost you a pretty penny but it's fabulous.

Lighten Up

Unless you have really dry skin, you can ditch your heavy winter moisturizers, especially the ones that have a lot of oil in them. One of my current skincare obsessions is the Ole Henriksen C-Rush Brightening Gel Cream.

I received this product for free in exchange for an honest review so here it is: I LOVE IT. For starters, it smells like a creamsicle and your skin feels instantly refreshed after application. It firms and brightens and provides 24-hour moisture, all while targeting fine lines and wrinkles. I've also found that it's amazing as a primer, especially for under eyes. Dab a bit on your skin before concealer application and you'll find that makeup sits beautifully on top of it (ie no creasing or lines).

Boost of Bronze

This is totally optional, but if you're like me and naturally white as a ghost, bronzers and self-tanners are an absolute must for spring. I'm going to do a whole separate post dedicated to self-tanning, bronzing and body makeup (yup you read that right) so stay tuned if you're interested in learning how to become a golden goddess in under an hour.

In the meantime, for a subtle color boost, try Tarte's Maracuja Bronzing Serum, which truly delivers a natural color. Simply apply a few drops into your moisturizer (or use alone) and evenly blend into your face and neck. The smell is a bit annoying but it goes away. Don't forget to wash your hands after!
