Why Did it Take Me So Long to Realize Sneakers Can be Chic?

I've never liked sneakers. Probably because I've always associated them with sports, which I've never been particularly fond of either. Coupled with the fact that I still haven't fully recovered from the sneaker heel movement, my disdain for sneakers has remained steadfast over the years. Not even the meteoric re-emergence of Converse could sway me. As far as I was concerned, pairing sneakers with jeans was a style violation I wasn't ready to commit. Until Fenty x Puma happened.

I had seen photos of Rihanna's infamous Creeper Sneakers floating around the fashion blogger-sphere before, and I was surprised at how much I didn't hate them. Perhaps it was personal bias, since Rihanna is one of my idols/style icons. I recently had the opportunity to attend the latest Fenty launch party at Six:02 in Times Square, and after trying on literally every single article of clothing in her collection (and realizing only Rihanna herself could pull them off), I retreated to the shoe section. Within moments of slipping on the White Leather Creepers, I experienced a minor Cinderella moment and knew I couldn't leave the store without them.

Not only are these sneakers super comfy, they're versatile as well. Jeans, leggings, skirts, shorts, I have yet to find a combo that doesn't work with these babies. It's safe to say that I'm a reformed sneaker-hater and dare I say lusting after another pair?
